What can we infer from the increasing anti-migrant, and more specifically, anti-Syrian sentiments in Turkey? What does the “we don’t want” reaction we see every day in newspaper columns, social media, TV, interviews, on the street, and in every bit of everyday life tell us? What does it mean to belittle, scold and attack those who talk about human rights and human dignity and those who draw attention to the risks of anti-migrant discourses?

December 18, International Migrants Day is the day where the international society recognized migrants’ rights. Immediately before this important day, in a meeting in Marrakesh last week, 150 countries, including Turkey signed the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration. On December 17, 2018 Global Compact on Refugees was affirmed by the United National General Assembly.

We are publishing the Turkish translation of the open call for the foundation of an International Panel on Migration and Asylum, which was originally published on The Guardian on June 28, 2018. The letter was signed by more than 500 academics all around the world.
